Danceworks Performance Company Want or Need April 27-May 6, 2012 Danceworks Studio Theatre 1661 N. Water St., Milwaukee, WI
"DPC celebrates and contemplates the last 15 years by looking inward to rediscover where we've been—in dance-making and in life. Joy. Doubt. Despair. Grace. Forgiveness. Aspiration. These are moments of humanity that are undeniably present and vivid in the human dancing body. They are the moments that help us to define—and redefine—what we want and what we need."
Danceworks Performance Company The Sequel! January 20-29, 2012 Danceworks Studio Theatre 1661 N. Water St., Milwaukee, WI
"The choreographers of DPC went to the movies for inspiration once before—and now we're back for more! In this fast-paced feature, historic battles ensue, dramas entrance, lovers swoon, hostages are taken and superheroes save the day! We need another round of dancing with the movies to get "footloose" and tangled up with the many genres of the silver screen. Don't miss the twists and turns of The Sequel!"
"DPC joins forces with Milwaukee Opera Theatre and UWM Dance Professor Simone Ferro to bring you Maria de Buenos Aires, an intoxicating brew of tango and opera, conducted by Milwaukee Chamber Orchestra's Richard Hynson. With the words, 'Now the time has come,' our goblin narrator sweeps us into Maria's world as she wanders, plummets and soars in the shadows of the city, singing and dancing until she is nothing but 'the remains of tangoed ashes.'"
The Pritzlaff Building 143 West Saint Paul Street, Milwaukee, WI
"A site-specific dance event where audiences can invent their own experience among the passages and chambers of the century-old Pritzlaff Building and the thought-provoking video of acclaimed photographer Tom Bamberger."
The Museum of Narrow Places: Limitation Breeds Possibility MFA Thesis performances from Carey Foster and Amii LeGendre July 8-9, 2011, 8 PM Inova/Arts Center, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee 2400 East Kenwood Boulevard, Milwaukee, WI
"This is an interdisciplinary work that tampers with structure in order to offer watching and participating options for its spectators. There are hip hop artists, modern dancers, musicians, golfers, tree climbers, composers, visual artists, and massage therapists in the cast. There are voices from interviews with an ex-incarcerated man, a Rabbi, an Episcopalian-pagan, a Palestinian activist, and a transgendered activist. The work asks, how do we create limitation in our lives, how do we set limits, make restrictions? What structures do we make (in the face of structures made for us) that enable spaciousness, consciousness, real or perceived depth or ease of passage?"

"Come As You Are: Re-Imagining Art with a Conscience The final weekend explores how we can create work that is socially relevant, appealing, and entertaining while sustaining our livelihoods as artists. Can we create new systems of value and new models of socially accountable and affordable art production?
Collaborating Artists: Silvita Diaz Brown, Nicole Garneau & Lani Montreal; Nicole LeGette; The Ladies Ring Shout, Ayako Kato & David Boykin; and with Special Guests Joel Valentin-Martinez & Liz Zastrow"
Joel Valentín-Martínez's SOMBRAS Concert April 14-16, 2011, 8 PM Marjorie Ward Marshall Ballroom Theater Northwestern University, 10 Arts Circle Drive Evanston, IL 60208
"Untold histories emerge as Valentín-Martínez juxtaposes Hollywood glamour and xenophobia toward surrounding Mexican-American communities: Voices past and present collide in "Cositas" (Little Things). A Chicago premiere, "Who cares, just another..." navigates the experience of a contemporary middle class Mexican-American returning home as a tourist. The third piece will be a new multimedia work, "Embracing Shadows: Hambre, Polvo y Sudor" (Hunger, Dust & Sweat), based on the history of the Bracero Program. A talk-back with the choreographer and dancers follows the Friday, April 15 performance."

"A performance, a conversation, a floor show, a game show and a chance to meet big minds. Co-commissioned by the Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center and Peak Performances at Montclair State University, The Matter of Origins probes the physics of beginnings and the poetry of the mind. Act One takes place on stage and travels from Marie Curie’s lab to the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, then through the Hubble telescope to the reaches of an accelerating universe. For Act Two the audience moves to a nearby party room for a 360-degree experience of dance, media, cake, tea, and provocative conversation – courtesy of some surprise guests!"
